Complementary Therapies
Many people with cancer are interested in complementary therapy to help them cope with the disease. Research has shown that patients find these therapies relaxing and they can improve general well being, aid sleep and reduce anxiety.

The service has staff and volunteers who can offer aromatherapy massage, reflexology and relaxation to patients attending the Guy's, Kings and St Thomas' Cancer Centre.

Aromatherapy uses essential oils, specifically selected by the therapist for each patient, to give a gentle massage of the back, neck and shoulders.

Reflexology works on the principle that there are 'reflex' areas on the feet and hands that correspond to all parts of the body. Specific pressure techniques are used to the feet or hands to gently bring the body back to a state of balance.

Relaxation techniques can be given within a group or individually and help reduce stress levels. These techniques can be used on a daily basis by patients at home to help them improve their quality of life.
